And put yourself in situations that are kind of uncomfortable. This is one of the best ways to improve as a mixer. Now there are hundreds of different multitracks you can download through these five sites. This is like the Holy Grail when it comes to the best place to get multitracks on the internet. Hundreds of different multitracks of every genre, pop to stoner rock to death metal.
Whatever you want, you can find it here. So if you wanna check this out, I put links to all of these sites in the description below. The second site is hosted by Telefunken. Telefunken makes great microphones, and to showcase these mics, they put together a collection of multitracks with sessions that were all recorded exclusively with Telefunken microphones.
Again, all the links to all of these sites are available in the description. The third site is Shaking Through. Now, Shaking Through is a series that was put together by an organization called Weathervane Music. Every month they bring in a new artist into the studio and take you inside that whole process.
So they show you exactly how they recorded everything and take detailed notes of the entire process, and really give you a look inside the process of making a record. So, you can download those right away. But these recordings and the bands that they bring in are really awesome. So, I think this is one of the best places to get multitracks specifically within the indie rock genre. The fourth site is pureMix. And some of them you have to pay for, but a lot of them are actually available for free, including a track by David Crosby of Crosby, Stills, and Nash.
And the fifth site is Indaba Music. So you can submit songs, compete in a songwriting competition, or you can submit remixes for remix competitions. But they also host a lot of mixing competitions. So, go to the site, check it out, and scroll through. See if there are any active competitions.
And go take a look at some of the old ones, and see if you can grab some of the multitracks. And so many different multitracks you can download. Thanks so much for watching. You can check out more mixing tips at BehindTheSpeakers.

Mixing Secrets For The Small Studio - Additional Resources
There is no shortage of advice and recommendations out there. A lot of it is from software vendors or worship backing track providers, or is just written about a single worship accompaniment tracks software or solution. The first thing to keep in mind is this: MultiTracks or any steps you take in worship should be used to help your ministry find its best expression for your church body.
They should help you find your sound and grow your abilities, and they should help you serve. It may well do so. So, with the right goals in mind, what can these worship tracks systems do for you? Many times, worship musicians think about only the performance aspect of MultiTracks. But there are several ways this technology can be used in addition to live performance:. They can add instruments you may not have, or may not have for a specific service.
They can provide skilled worship music accompaniment tracks such as pads, rhythm lines, or strings or synths. They can also reinforce what you do have by adding strength or solidity—kind of like how a strong choir member can help the weaker ones sing better.
Some MultiTrack systems can automate lyric or chord presentation. Some can automate lighting commands. Some can automate playing pads between songs. Using the structure of a worship backing tracks system can help you establish and share set lists, and help musicians arrive ready to go, with everything well-planned in advance.
With some systems, this can include chord charts and planned arrangements as well. Learning to play to a click is helpful for most musicians in worship settings, and will help to keep the band together. MultiTracks and custom mixes can be used for rehearsal and practice by team members. Some worship song tracks systems can duplicate the performance environment at home, helping musicians be familiar with the set and ready to play.
There are also some negative things MultiTracks can do. They are computer automation, and they can fail to work. A computer may crash. The automation may cause confusion, similar to an airplane cockpit when things go wrong. The band may get off the click. The sound may not work for your church body. Like anything else in your service, having a plan for these situations is a good thing.
You also should consider hardware—both for performance, and for individual rehearsal. How will you control the tracks? Are you tired of dull, boring, lifeless mixes? Recording Forums. Free Multitracks For Mixing Practice! Tags: cambridge music technology free multitracks mixing mixing practice multitrack. Joined: Mar 18, Home Page: Link. I recently noticed that there's a shortage of freely downloadable multitrack projects on the net for people to use for mixing practice.
Update: 50 full-length multitracks now available! I posted about this library about six months ago, but since then there've been quite a lot of new developments, so I figured it might be time to post an update. Here's a quick summary of where things are now: There are now more 50 projects listed, covering a wide range of musical styles -- including more than 20 of the songs I've remixed for the 'Mix Rescue' column.
Almost all the projects are now provided in full-length versions -- previously most of the projects were only second excerpts on account of web-space restrictions. All of the files are in uncompressed WAV format at There are MP3 previews provided alongside each listing so that you can get an idea of what to expect before downloading.
Have fun with them! TitanTraxx likes this. Joined: Jul 4, Location: Manchester, England. Home Page: Link. Really good idea, thank you. Excellent idea, I hope it grows. Could be a great way for us to hold a contest.
I plan to download tracks for sure, thank you. Joined: Oct 9, Location: devon. Thought it was worth posting another update here, because there's been another big increase in the number of multitracks listed -- we're up to about 85 full-length multitrack projects now! Another superheavy death-metal offeringthis time from the band Cnoc An Tursa. An entire song punk album from the band Out Of Tune.
Also, if you want to stay up to date with continuing additions to the library, I've also set up a dedicated mailing list for this purpose. There are already some more multitracks I've got in the pipeline Up to free sessions!
Free Multitracks For Mixing Practice!
Another quick update to mention that there have been lots of new multitracks added to the library since last I posted -- there are now different projects, with new additions including: A Bollywood-style ballad called ' Kaathaadi ' by Sambasevam Shanmugam.
Although most legitimate 'free multitracks' I've encountered from well-known artists are actually submixed stems, incomplete 'remix packs', or data-compressed audio files, these two actually seem to be the real deal -- bit WAVs taken direct from the original multitrack tapes. A powerful Muse-flavoured indie rock production from The Doppler Shift. Another sample-based film cue, this time desert-themed suspense from New York-based media composer Mike Skalandunas.
A great acoustic song by Will Knox, multitracked live in front of an audience at Sweetwater's GearFest expo.
The main link to the library has also changed slightly, if anyone wants to update their bookmarks: Library Of Free Multitrack Downloads The mailing list address is still the same, though: Mixing Secrets News. Joined: Feb 27, Location: New Hampshire. Where do you live? Thanks for this. I'm trying to teach myself multi-tracking using audio produced by myself and my friends and this resource will speed that up a lot.
